Sari Silk Ribbon is made in India by women working through Fair Trade. They take what would otherwise be silk waste, from cutting sari silk for wraps and clothing, and sew the pieces end to end, occasionally tying ends, to make beautiful yarn. Some of these ribbon skeins are overdyed, which creates fantastic shading and a great range of similar hues. In this multi-shade colorway there are lovely muted shades from a light and muted pinks, yellows and blues and everything in between including smokey salmon, mint, sage and occasionally a very light muted lilac or lavender. Most shading is muted or "smokey" throughout this product with little or no brightness whatsoever, with the only color being "true" would be the blue. These skeins are all one of a kind. Some of the ribbon is more sheer, some with a satiny shine while others are matte. Occasionally there will be a little pattern here or there or even a short section of a completely different color. I made sure to include some of the occasional colors in the pictures so you can see them. Some edges are frayed, fringed or lacy, adding physical as well as visual texture. In five or ten yard sections there may not be any of these occasional colors as they tend to be sparse and random. Ribbon width ranges from 1/4" to nearly 1" across, with a few having lacy, fringed, or frayed edges for uniqueness. Use them phat or strip them into thinner ribbon. Embellish scrapbooks, book covers, scarves, art yarn, luggage or purse straps, even jewelry. Great in weaving, rug making, or plying into your OOAK yarns.
