Super soft and drapey, this ribbon has a light luster and is just beautiful. Earthier more than jewel in its tone, a Gunmetal blue-gray or a color closed to slightly fading denim jeans. This ribbon is a medium Steel Blue/Gray. Some skeins are of a narrower width, with more yardage while some have ribbon which is rather wide (1 - 2" wide). The wider ribbon is softer than most of the Sari ribbons I've come across. Third picture is taken in deep shade so it shows as too dark but the tone is correct. The first two pics are taken in natural lighting and are quite correct.
Sari Silk Ribbon is made in India by women working through Fair Trade. They take what would otherwise be silk waste, from cutting sari silk for wraps and clothing, and sew the pieces end to end, occasionally tying ends, to make beautiful ribbon yarn. Some edges are frayed or lacy, adding physical as well as visual texture. Shown in different lights, this is a muted, subtle and versatile color, falling somewhere between gray and a smokey blue - leaning more to the gray definitely but with the hues of a bruised, stormy sky. Smaller sections may be only a dark gray with less of the bluish hues as shown in the last two pics. Thinner than the average Sari Ribbon strips, most of these ribbons measure 1/4" to about 1/2" across, with a few having lacy, fringed, or frayed edges for uniqueness. Embellish scrapbooks, book covers, scarves, art yarn, luggage or purse straps, even jewelry. Great in weaving, rug making, or plying into your OOAK yarns.
Listing is for five yards, ten yards or a full skein. Yardage on a skein varies, depending on the ribbon width. If one skein has ribbon half as wide as another, it will have twice as many yards to it because I purchase these by weight rather than yardage.
