Mulberry Silk Throwster – Bombyx Cultivated Silk Skeins – Premium Dyeable Silk Fiber

Our Mulberry Silk Throwster is made from premium cultivated silk (also known as Bombyx silk), widely recognized as the finest and most lustrous silk in the world. These skeined silk strands are collected during the processing of mulberry silk when long fibers catch during production and do not form uniform sliver or yarn.

The result? Incredibly soft, ultra-lustrous, long silk strands with natural crimp and subtle tonal variation, primarily creamy white with occasional cream highlights.

This is clean, high-quality silk fiber ready to use or dye.

What Is Throwster Silk?

Throwster silk consists of long, strong strands of mulberry silk arranged side-by-side and loosely skeined. Unlike silk top, this fiber:

  • Contains long continuous strands

  • May have slight curl or crimp in areas

  • Is not processed into uniform sliver

  • Maintains exceptional sheen and strength

It is sometimes called Bombyx silk or cultivated silk and comes from domesticated silkworms (Bombyx mori).

Fiber Characteristics

  • Fiber Type: Mulberry Silk (Bombyx mori)

  • Grade: Premium cultivated silk

  • Color: Creamy white to soft cream

  • Texture: Extremely soft with high luster

  • Strand Length: Mostly very long, continuous fibers

  • Preparation: Clean and ready to dye

  • Structure: Side-by-side strands formed into skeins

Because this silk has not been heavily processed into top, it offers unique texture and visual interest.
