Wonderfully soft and full of texture. Excellent for spinning, weaving, jewelry making, scrap-booking and fantastic mixed media!
Sari Silk Ribbon is made in India by women working through Fair Trade. They take what would otherwise be silk waste, from cutting sari silk for wraps and clothing, and sew the pieces end to end, occasionally tying ends, to make beautiful yarn. Some of these ribbon skeins are overdyed, which creates fantastic shading and a great range of similar hues. In this colorway there are multiple, mostly deep shades of Teal, Tartan, Loden and a little deep Hunter. First two pics are the best, showing the depth and saturation of this color correctly. The third and fourth pictures are of the greenest areas of this colorway. The last one is taken in bright light and "washed out", looking lighter than it really is. Every skein is different and if you buy a smaller portion (such as 5 or 10 yards) it may not contain multiple shades. If you prefer your ribbon more towards the blue - teal or more of a teal - green you can specify and I'll grab one that fits. Some of the ribbon is sheer, some with a satiny shine while others are matte. Occasionally there will be a little pattern here or there. or even an unexpected color - these little surprises started out as a different color entirely but were then overdyed with the Teal and came out something entirely new and fun! Some edges are frayed or lacy, adding physical as well as visual texture. Shown in different lights, this is a beatiful jewel toned colorway. Ribbon width ranges from 1/4" to nearly 1" across, with a few having lacy, fringed, or frayed edges for uniqueness. Use them phat or strip them into thinner ribbon. Embellish scrapbooks, book covers, scarves, art yarn, luggage or purse straps, even jewelry. Great in weaving, rug making, or plying into your OOAK yarns.
