Wonderfully soft, drapey and full of texture. Excellent for spinning, weaving, jewelry making, scrap-booking and fantastic mixed media!
Sari Silk Ribbon is made in India by women working through Fair Trade. They take what would otherwise be silk waste, from cutting sari silk for wraps and clothing, and sew the pieces end to end, occasionally tying ends, to make beautiful yarn. Some of these ribbon skeins are overdyed, which creates fantastic shading and a great range of similar hues. In this colorway there are pastel purple shades from lilac, lavender to what I would call a medium purple. First two pictures are most accurate. Some of the ribbon is somewhat sheer, some with a satiny shine while others are more matte. Rarely there will be a little pattern here or there. Some edges are frayed or lacy, adding physical as well as visual texture. Shown in different lights, this is a beautiful jewel toned colorway. Ribbon width ranges from 1/2" to 1" - 1 1/2" across, with a few having lacy, fringed, or frayed edges for uniqueness. Use them phat or strip them into thinner ribbon. Embellish scrapbooks, book covers, scarves, art yarn, luggage or purse straps, even jewelry. Great in weaving, rug making, or plying into your OOAK yarns.
