Sari Silk Ribbon is made in India by women working through Fair Trade, where women work to earn a living in co-ops. They take what would otherwise be silk waste, from cutting sari silk for wraps and clothing, and sew the pieces end to end, occasionally tying ends, to make beautiful ribbon/yarn. This colorway is an earthy, deep, rather than bright red, yet true to red. Much like a cinnabar red, etc.. - also like Christmas reds as depicted in folk art. It is not as quite as brown/orange as the 2nd and 3rd pictures make it seem - more of a true red with no pink, orange or purple influence. These ribbons measure 1/2 - 3/4 inches across, with some fringe/fray, excellent for Boho projects. Use them phat or strip them into thinner ribbon. Embellish scrapbooks, book covers, scarves, art yarn, even jewelry. Great in weaving, rug making, or plying into your OOAK yarns.
