Ashford Leather Conrod Joint – Restore Smooth Treadling on Classic Ashford Wheels

The Ashford Leather Conrod Joint is a traditional replacement part used to connect the conrod (connecting rod) to the treadle on older Ashford spinning wheels. Made from durable leather, this joint allows for smooth, flexible movement between your foot treadle and the drive wheel crank.

This part is ideal for restoring or maintaining vintage Ashford Traditional, Traveller, or some early Elizabeth spinning wheels that originally used leather connectors. Over time, leather joints can dry out, crack, or stretch—replacing them restores treadling efficiency and can reduce noise or resistance during spinning.

Note: Not compatible with newer Ashford wheels that use polyurethane conrod joints (such as Kiwi, Joy, or updated Traditional and Traveller models).

FAQs

Q: What does the conrod joint do?
A: It connects the treadle to the conrod, which in turn drives the crank of the spinning wheel. The joint allows flexible, quiet motion as you treadle.

Q: Is this joint compatible with all Ashford wheels?
A: No. This leather version is only used on older Traditional, Traveller, and some Elizabeth models. Newer wheels use a polyurethane connector.

Q: How do I know if my wheel uses a leather conrod joint?
A: If your conrod is attached to the treadle with a leather loop and staple or tack, this is the correct part. If it uses any plastic connector, you'll need one of the polyurethane version instead.

Q: What tools do I need to install it?
A: You may need a staple, tack, or small nail (not included) to fasten the leather to the treadle or conrod—simple hand tools are sufficient.

Q: Is this an official Ashford part?
A: Yes, this is a genuine Ashford replacement part made to original specifications.
