Super soft and drapey, this ribbon has a light luster and is just beautiful. Earthtone gray with occasional areas of a faded denim or gunmetal color. The vast majority of this ribbon is a medium Steel Gray. Softer than most of the Sari ribbons I've come across.
Sari Silk Ribbon is made in India by women working through Fair Trade. They take what would otherwise be silk waste, from cutting sari silk for wraps and clothing, and sew the pieces end to end, occasionally tying ends, to make beautiful ribbon yarn. Some edges are frayed or lacy, adding physical as well as visual texture. Shown in different lights, this is a smokey, moody and versatile color, falling somewhere between dark charcoal gray and a deep smokey blue - super versatile and neutral in a deep way. Because these are "overdyed", the original base color creates slight different shading of the final dyed product with occasional hints of other similar shades. An occasional gold thread sometimes used to sew ends together and there may even be a tiny gold embossed/embroidered patch but they are not frequent. There are also some barely seen patterns if the light is right - a fine checking or striping is possible but not highly noticeable unless you're looking for it. It's lovely when you see it! Wider than the average Sari Ribbon strips, most of these ribbons measure 3/4" to about 2" across, with a few having lacy, fringed, or frayed edges for uniqueness. Embellish scrapbooks, book covers, scarves, art yarn, luggage or purse straps, even jewelry. Great in weaving, rug making, or plying into your OOAK yarns. Last picture shows it against Midnight Blue so you can see how not True Blue it is.
