Wonderfully soft, drapey and full of texture. Excellent for spinning, weaving, jewelry making, scrap-booking and fantastic mixed media! Excellent Shabby Chic colorway. This is NOT a true Lilac. Just as a red rose, when pressed dry in a book for preserving is not red. It's a "once was" lilac, with a smokey hue to it now that it's been completely dried. Just as the dried rose will be a brownish rose when dried, this is a taupey lilac, earthy in its tone, rather than the typical pastel lilac.

Sari Silk Ribbon is made in India by women working through Fair Trade. They take what would otherwise be silk waste, from cutting sari silk for wraps and clothing, and sew the pieces end to end, occasionally tying ends, to make beautiful yarn. Some of these ribbon skeins are overdyed, which creates fantastic shading and a great range of complimentary hues. In this colorway there are lovely muted shades from lilac/gray/taupe to a medium pink/gray/taupe and everything in between. Similar to "First Blush" in my shop, only a shade darker, this colorway is a shade or two more toward the mauve/gray tone and is mostly earthy, as though you pressed a lilac cluster in a book for a length of time to dry. Some of the ribbon is more sheer, some with a satiny shine while others are matte. Occasionally there will be a little pattern here or there or even a short section of a completely different color. Some edges are frayed, fringed or lacy, adding physical as well as visual texture. Shown in different lights, this is a beautiful pastel to floral toned colorway. Ribbon width ranges from 1/4" to nearly 1" across, with a few having lacy, fringed, or frayed edges for uniqueness. Use them phat or strip them into thinner ribbon. Embellish scrapbooks, book covers, scarves, art yarn, luggage or purse straps, even jewelry. Great in weaving, rug making, or plying into your OOAK yarns.
