Wonderfully soft and full of texture. Excellent for spinning, weaving, jewelry making, scrap-booking and fantastic mixed media! Brighter and bluer than Teal, this is a really hot color this year.
Sari Silk Ribbon is made in India by women working through Fair Trade. They take what would otherwise be silk waste, from cutting sari silk for wraps and clothing, and sew the pieces end to end, occasionally tying ends, to make beautiful yarn. This was a difficult colorway to photograph. The camera kept trying to lighten and brighten the colors. The first and third photos show the occasional pattern or surprise colors (these are somewhat rare in this ribbon and smaller sections may not have this) but the color is deeper and a tad smokier than those pics show. The middle one has the tones right but is darker than the actual ribbon color. Some of the ribbon is sheer, some with a satiny shine while others are matte. Occasionally there will be a little pattern here or there. Some edges are frayed or lacy, adding physical as well as visual texture. Shown in different lights, this is a beautiful jewel toned colorway. Ribbon width ranges from 1/4" to 1 1/2" across, with many having fuzzy, tattered, or frayed edges for uniqueness. Use them phat or strip them into thinner ribbon. Embellish scrapbooks, book covers, scarves, art yarn, luggage or purse straps, even jewelry. Great in weaving, rug making, or plying into your OOAK yarns.
