This is a beautifully crafted wooden drop spindle to show off to your spinner friends - probably the most beautiful I've ever carried. It's made of hardwood Rosewood and Maple. Choose Maple inlaid with rich, deep Rosewood OR Rosewood inlaid with Maple. Beginner Friendly, It makes a perfect Teaching Kit. These spindles have four equidistant notches in the whorl, so if your yarn were to slip out of one notch, it will catch on the next one. Spindle is approximately 11 3/4" in length overall and the whorl is 3" in diameter. Well balanced, smoothly sanded with a pretty and protective lacquer finish applied. Weighs a tad over 1 1/2 oz.
Bowls are useful in supporting your spindle for support spindling, typically used with shorter fiber such as cotton. Maple bowls measure approximately 4" in diameter X 2" high. We also have gorgeous grained rosewood bowls, which are a bit taller, measuring 3" high with an inside diameter of 3 1/4". All bowls made of hardwood and beautifully finished with a clear lacquer, weighing approximately 5 1/2 - 6 oz (rosewood) and 3 oz for the maple. This bowl is sturdy and attractive enough to be used for many things.
Listing is for one spindle, a set of spindles in both maple and rosewood, spindle & bowl set (choose spindle wood), bowl only, or spindle "Kits" with beginner friendly fiber from a heritage breed specifically bred for premium spinning fiber. This fiber would have a long staple (makes learning on a spindle much easier) with a nice hand - not a coarse/scratchy wool. This fiber would typically be Shetland, Cheviot, Wensleydale, BFL, Polwarth or Gotland.
