Seacell fiber is a seaweed product that is prepared with the same process used to make Tencel, Bamboo, Viscose Rayon, and other cellulose fibres.” Seacell is also a cellulose based fiber, infused with ground/powdered seaweed, reputed to bring in the sea minerals that are prized for their health and healing benefits to skin. We include seaweed products in our diets for their health benefits. While your skin is your body's largest organ and does absorb nutrients, moisture, etc... I would not give up your mineral supplement simply because you make and wear textiles made with Seacell. That said, this is a super yummy fiber, much like Tencel in its feel - very silky and weighty, giving luster and drape to fabric.
Seacell fiber is made by infusing powdered seaweed/kelp with a biodegradable cellulose fiber much like tencel or bamboo. With a feel like silk, nice drapiness and naturally cooling properties, great for textiles to be worn. Seacell Fiber is a great deal like bamboo in its weight and drape and is lovely to spin. Also would be easy and beautiful to blend with wool and other fibers to add a smooth and silky texture. This fiber is said to be hypoallergenic and antimicrobial in general. This is an environmentally friendly, green eco-fiber and it is bio-degradable. It has a gorgeous luster and dyes well using fiber reactive or natural dye. Great for next to skin textiles for its naturally cooling, anti-microbial properties. Fiber is also popular for making doll hair, all types of felting and paper making. If using in wet/nuno felting, simply layer in between light, sheer layers of wool.
Environmentally, Seacell is a good choice in textile fiber, as it provides a sustainable, silk like feel at a much better price than typical silks. Last couple pictures are of an Alternative Fiber Collection. I offer these in several varieties - silks, vegan, exotics and other mixes.
Spinning Seacell: Seacell fiber carries a nice staple length so it is a versatile spinning fiber on its own or mixed with other fiber. Blended or plied, it will add luster and superior softness to your yarn. Surprisingly strong, even wet, you will be pleased with the softness, strength and luster of this fiber.
Dyeing Seacell: Seacell fiber is a cellulose fiber its sliver and yarns can be dyed with natural plant dyes and mordants or other dyes suitable for cellulose fibers.
I will offer collections, as shown in the last photo, of various groups of alternative fiber such as luxury silks, vegan & cellulose, etc...
