Exceptional Beginner-Friendly spinning fiber because of its staple length and lovely hand. Natural color ecru combed top, very much like heavy and weighty hair - frequently used for doll or animal hair. Lustrous, with a long staple, wool. 30-36 microns. Excellent spinning at staple length of 7 inches. 180 mm. Weighty (drapey) and silky in feel, this shiny top takes dye very well, producing intense rich colors. Wensleydales came from Teeswater ewes bred to Bluecap, a particular breed of ram bred in North Yorkshire in 1839. This may be the only breed of sheep that is traceable to a single ancestor. Though the two breeds are considered distinct, the difference between them is difficult to tell when looking at the numbers used to describe their fleeces. Among the whites, the Wensleydale seems to have the cooler, brighter fleece than the Teeswater. Because of the staple length, yarns with low twist work well.
