Ashford's lovely colonial top has a super hand (27 - 30 micron) and a longer staple (over 4 inches) than merino, excellent beginner friendly for spinners. The Corriedale sheep is found on sheep farms all over New Zealand. It's wool has a clear even crimp and is smooth and easy to spin or felt. The sheep are well cared for and are not mulesed. Spin a fine to medium woollen, worsted or semi-worsted yarn. Corriedale will bulk after washing and has good elasticity. New Zealand Corriedale wool has a clear even crimp and is smooth and easy to spin or felt, both needle felting and nuno (wet) felting.
In their processing procedure, this wool is scoured (washed) using an environmentally-friendly, biodegradable detergent. The wool is then dried and dyed. The dyes comply with the strict EU regulations and garments made from the sliver can be certified under the Oeko-Tex Standard 100. This standard is the most widely known standard for certification of ecologically-safe clothing. (Detailed information can be found at www.oekotex.com). The fibre is then gently opened and conditioned. Carding machines align the fibres and remove any foreign matter. It is then gilled and combed.
