This Halloween Hat was made by my sister - the artsy one in the family. She does parties, entire weddings and just loves being creative in general. She made this hat to attend a Halloween Hat & Costume party, taking first prize in the Hat contest! Of course she always does but it's still a lot of fun to see the things she makes and attend the contests.
This year she chose a skeleton theme and embellished her tophat (original measurements 8" high X 11 3/4" front to back, including brim X 10 1/4" side to side, including brim) with five 6" tall skeletons around the brim and one peeking over the top at you. The back is the grand finale here though, with the top "half" of a larger skeleton whom she dressed in rags, tattered netting and scrubby yarn in gray/cream/black. He measures 19" total, including his bodiless garb draping from the hat. His "outfit" hangs 15" down from the back brim of the hat. He is stunning and takes the show but the whole hat is fabulous and absolutely one of a kind. Behind the large skeleton is glistening black pom poms standing out at his side on black wire (chenille) stems all perched on black tulle and pressed against a dapper white polka dot ribbon.
The detail isn't adequately captured in any of the photos, though I've tried multiple lightings and even a black and white pic (#4). She posed each of the trim skeletons differently, removing a leg or half a leg on a couple. She was going to attach the bones that were removed but couldn't attach them to be tough enough for wearing without having to use noticeable glue dollops. She's very good at hiding any attachments but left the one on top with no "fluff", so if you look in the light, you can see the hot glue. This had was only going to be worn at night so it would not be seen from the top but if you wanted to wear it in brighter light, just fluff a bit of black tulle or scraps of black thread around his hands and pelvis, which is where he is attached. The other skeletons' "attachment" is well camouflaged and the large skeleton on the rear shows none because of his elaborate outfit.
Much care and thought goes into her hats and costumes and this is no exception. You'll be the hit of the part with this adorable hat! I will ship it in a spacious box with lots of light padding to protect it. It will ship via Priority Mail so will get to you quick!
