I carry a lot of different (brands and sizes) Tapestry Looms and this is ONE HEAVY DUTY LOOM. Nothing fragile or delicate about this loom! Sturdy and ready for travel or leave it set up at home to "paint your weaving Palette."
Schacht’s new Arras Tapestry Loom embraces traditional tapestry weaving with a modern, thoughtfully designed loom. It’s a tool for beginners as well as more experienced weavers alike and will withstand the rigors of serious tapestry weaving. Made of solid maple hardwood and maple plywood, this loom has excellent warp tension control that tapestry weaving requires.
The Arras Loom has a 20" weaving width and takes a continuous warp up to 45" long. For longer warps, an optional upgrade kit with ratcheted cloth and warp beams can be added.
Weavers can adjust the loom’s height and weaving angle for comfortable weaving. In addition, the loom can be raised 3.5" for ease of warping in the vertical position. A smooth-working adjustable shedding device is controlled with a hand lever which can be installed on the right or left side of the loom. Weighing only 10 pounds, the Arras Loom is portable, with legs that can be folded up for travel or storage.
The beam extension kit (shown in last photo) is a wonderful optional accessory and will fit on all existing Arras Tapestry Looms, making your Arras even more versatile. Instead of direct warping on the loom, This extension kit allows for warp and cloth storage, allowing longer warps .Kit shown installed on loom in the third photo and is offered in the drop down options box with the loom or alone, if you already have the loom. Schacht recommends the use of a raddle (Up to 20") with this beam extension kit.

Tapestry weaving is one of the oldest weaving techniques, tried and true, considered by many to be the most personal and expressive of all weaving. Also among the simplest of looms, the tapestry loom holds a continuous warp under tension, allowing the weaver to see all of the warp at once. Sheds are formed using heddle bars and string heddles. While only two heddle bars are needed for traditional tapestry weaving, this loom provides four heddle bars so that beginning weavers can also experiment with 4-shaft pattern weaving.
