Sari Silk Ribbon is made in India by women working through Fair Trade. They take what would otherwise be silk waste, from cutting sari silk for wraps and clothing, and sew the pieces end to end, occasionally tying ends, to make beautiful yarn. Some of these ribbon skeins are overdyed which creates fantastic shading and a great range of similar hues. In this bi-color colorway there are shades of Pink Flamingo (a kind of salmony-pink) which is soft and muted, excellent for that "vintage" look, with a medium slate gray (has the slightest blueish cast to it - earthy and just lovely!). Where the two colors come together or overlap, they create beautiful mixed shading. First picture is most accurate. 2nd makes the gray too dark and 3rd makes the entire colorway "off" and kind of green. Some edges are fringed, frayed or lacy, adding physical as well as visual texture and uniqueness. Ribbon thickness is mostly on the thinner size from 1/4" - 1". Use them phat or cut them into thinner ribbon as these are SO VERSATILE! Shown in different lights, this is a really muted, vintage themed colorway. Use them phat or strip them into thinner ribbon. Embellish scrapbooks, book covers, scarves, art yarn, luggage or purse straps, even jewelry. Great in weaving, rug making, or plying into your OOAK yarns.
